NPC 200 is a black neoprene cellular rubber, also known as CR cellular rubber or chloroprene cellular rubber. This material is soft, flexible and very versatile. Thanks to its closed cell structure, it is completely waterproof and does not absorb liquids, which means it functions excellently in direct contact with water or even seawater, without affecting the properties of the rubber. One of the most important characteristics of neoprene cellular rubber is that it is flame retardant according to the UL94 HF1 standard. This sets it apart from other types of cellular rubber and ensures that it is often chosen for applications where fire safety is important.
In addition to its fire-retardant effect, NPC 200 also has a reasonable resistance to alkalis and oils, including fuel and petroleum. This makes it suitable for temporary contact with oil, although for optimum oil resistance, an NBR cellular rubber is a better choice. CR cellular rubber is highly resistant to weather influences such as UV radiation and exceptionally resistant to ozone and other weather conditions. This means that the material can be used both indoors and outdoors and retains its properties for a long time. Thanks to its good mechanical properties, it also has a shock-absorbing effect, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Neoprene cellular rubber is easy to process, which is why NPC supplies the material in various customised forms. It is available as a sheet or on a roll, but also as cellular rubber tape, on reels, in blocks, frames, discs or rings. All these versions can be supplied with either one-sided or double-sided self-adhesive, depending on the application and installation preference. This makes the material suitable for both serial and customised applications.
The application possibilities of NPC 200 are very wide. Thanks to its flame-retardant properties, it is often used in public spaces, where additional requirements are imposed on fire safety. In sectors such as shipbuilding and offshore, the material comes into its own because of its excellent sealing against liquids. It is also a frequently used solution as insulation in window frames, aluminium and steel windows or in partition walls. CR cellular rubber provides a good barrier against air, dust and heat or cold loss, making it suitable for airtight construction. It is also regularly used as pipe insulation and is used in bodywork construction, aviation and the automotive industry. The combination of sound-insulating and shock-absorbing properties also makes it suitable as a bumper or damping material.
On a technical level, NPC 200 has solid properties. The material functions without problems at temperatures between -40 °C and +90 °C, with a short tolerance of up to +110 °C. Fire safety is confirmed with certification according to FMVSS302 and UL94 HF1. The cellular rubber shows minimal shrinkage after prolonged exposure to 70 °C, with a volume reduction of only a few percent. The lambda value, which indicates the thermal insulation value, is 0.037 W/mK. Water absorption is limited to less than five percent, and at an ozone load of 200 pphm for more than 48 hours, the material shows no degradation, confirming its good ozone resistance.
The pressure resistance is also impressive. At 25 percent compression, the force is 45 kPa, while at 50 percent compression this increases to 120 kPa. The material shows good rebound properties, with a compression set of 16 percent at 23 °C and 40 percent at 40 °C. The tensile strength is 500 kPa and the elongation at break is 160 percent, which easily meets the standards. In addition, the material is wear-resistant with a resistance of 1.5 kN/m. NPC 200 can withstand compression of up to 50 percent, thus maintaining its shock-absorbing effect.
In terms of material standards, the neoprene cellular rubber complies with REACH and RoHS regulations, is recyclable and free of CFC and HCFC. The product is odourless and has a shelf life of two years, if stored properly. These properties make NPC 200 a reliable and versatile material for a wide range of technical applications where safety, durability and processability are key.
