NPC 350 is a black NBR cellular rubber, also known as nitrile cellular rubber. The material is mainly known for its excellent oil resistance and is therefore very suitable for applications where long-term or even permanent contact with oil occurs. Think of substances such as petrol, diesel or petroleum. Thanks to the closed cell structure, the material is waterproof and does not allow liquids to pass through, which contributes to the versatility and durability of the product. NPC 350 is also flame-retardant in accordance with the UL94 HF1 standard, making it safe to use in environments where fire safety is essential.
Although NPC 350 is very resistant to oil, neoprene cellular rubber, such as NPC 204, can also be chosen for applications where flame-retardancy is more important than oil resistance. The NBR cellular rubber has a reasonable to good resistance to UV radiation and ozone, and is also resistant to ageing. Thanks to its shock-absorbing effect, it is frequently used in various sectors. At NPC, this material can be supplied in various forms, such as sheet material, strips, blocks, frames, discs and rings. All these variants are available both unglued and with single-sided or double-sided self-adhesive. The desired thicknesses can be peeled from master blocks, so that customisation is possible.
The application possibilities of NPC 350 are wide, partly due to its oil-resistant and flame-retardant properties. In mechanical engineering and shipping, it is often used as a seal in environments where oil is present, for example in engine rooms or on drilling platforms. Here it offers a durable barrier against dust, air and water. Because the material is not affected by oil, it remains effective for a long time. The damping properties also make it suitable for personal protective equipment such as clothing and accessories in martial arts, where shock absorption is important. In addition, the material is used as sound insulation and can be found in products such as yoga mats, thanks to its comfortable and flexible character.
On a technical level, NPC 350 meets various standards. The temperature range is between -35 °C and +80 °C, with a short-term peak load of up to +100 °C. Fire safety is in accordance with FMVSS302 and UL94 HF1. The material stability is high: after 22 hours at 70 °C, the shrinkage is less than 5%, and the volume loss remains limited, even after several days of exposure to elevated temperatures. The lambda value is 0.037 W/mK, which makes the material suitable as a thermal insulator. The water absorption is less than 5%, which confirms that the product is suitable for humid environments.
NPC 350 shows good mechanical stability. The force at 25% compression is 32 kPa and at 50% compression 90 kPa. The compression set remains below the standard values: 20% at 23 °C and 47% at 40 °C. The tensile strength of 728 kPa is well above the minimum requirement of 500 kPa, and the elongation at break is also very good at 165%. The abrasion resistance is 2.3 kN/m, which indicates a durable performance under mechanical stress. The material is resistant to compression of up to 50% and retains its shape and function under pressure.
In terms of material standards, the NBR cellular rubber meets REACH and RoHS requirements. It is fully recyclable and free of harmful substances such as CFC and HCFC. The shelf life is two years under the right storage conditions. Thanks to the combination of chemical resistance, fire safety, mechanical performance and customization options, NPC 350 is an excellent choice for many industrial applications.
