The MannTek Marine Safety Breakaway coupling with part number N103M4401 is a critical safety component designed for fluid transfer in demanding maritime environments. While standard industrial versions can separate at various angles, this Marine version is specifically engineered to activate at a defined axial (straight) tensile force. This functionality is ideal for applications such as ship-to-rig and ship-to-ship transfers, bunkering operations, and container discharge.
In offshore operations, hoses are subject to constant movement caused by waves and currents. The N103M4401 is constructed to offer higher resistance to torsion and bending loads compared to the industrial version, preventing premature activation due to the natural movement of the vessel. Separation occurs only when the tensile load—such as a vessel drifting away—exceeds the limit of the three external breaking bolts. Upon separation, internal valves instantly seal both open ends to prevent product loss.
Body Material: High-quality Stainless Steel 1.4408 (AISI 316) for maximum corrosion resistance in marine environments.
Connection: 1" BSP female thread according to EN ISO 228 on both sides.
Pressure Ratings: Maximum working pressure of 25 bar, a test pressure of 37.5 bar, and a minimum burst pressure of 125 bar.
O-Rings: Equipped with Viton (FKM) seals, suitable for temperatures between -20°C en +200°C.
Certifications: Complies with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) category 2 and is ATEX zone 1 approved. It is also cleared for transport via ADR, RID, and IMDG.
A significant operational advantage is that the coupling does not need to be replaced after a separation event. The unit can be inspected and reassembled on-site using a set of spare breaking bolts, minimizing downtime during maritime operations.
