The Manntek Industrial Safety Break-away coupling (SBC) is a crucial safety component designed to prevent costly damage, environmental pollution, and hazardous situations in loading and unloading systems. These couplings are designed to be the "weakest link" of the hose line or loading arm. If a vehicle, such as a tank truck or ship, unintentionally drives or drifts away while the connection is still established, the coupling breaks the connection in a controlled manner once the pulling force exceeds the set breaking value of 24 kN.
The unique design of the Industrial Version ensures that the connection not only breaks under a straight pull but also effectively releases at any angle up to 90 degrees. At the moment of separation, the coupling instantly seals both open ends automatically via internal valves. This keeps product release to an absolute minimum, protecting both the working environment and the ecosystem.
This version is manufactured from high-quality aluminum and is equipped with a 4-inch BSP female thread connection on both sides. The coupling features Viton (FPM) seals, which offer excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, aging, and chemicals. These seals are suitable for operating temperatures ranging between -20°C and +200°C. Thanks to its robust construction, the coupling can be reassembled on-site after an incident by simply replacing the three external breaking bolts with a spare parts kit.
Application: Suitable for a wide range of products including petroleum-based products, chemicals, and foodstuffs.
Maximum Working Pressure: 10 bar (test pressure 15 bar, minimum burst pressure 50 bar).Breaking Value: Set at a pulling force of 24 kN.
Connection: 4" BSP female thread (according to EN ISO 228) on both sides.
Material: Aluminum body with FPM (Viton) seals.
Certification: Fulfills the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and is approved for the transport of dangerous goods by road (ADR), rail (RID), and ship (IMDG).
ATEX: Suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (Zone 1).
This coupling is the ideal solution for the safe loading and unloading of road and rail tankers, ISO containers, and ship-to-shore transfers.
