The MannTek Marine Safety Break-away coupling (SBC), identified by part number N103M1101, is a critical safety component specifically developed for maritime environments. This coupling acts as the intentional "weakest link" in a hose string or loading arm to prevent costly damage and hazardous leaks. If a vessel or bunker barge inadvertently drifts away while the connection is active, the coupling ensures a controlled separation once the pulling force exceeds the set breaking value.
Unlike the industrial version, this Marine Version (N103M1101) is specifically designed to offer increased resistance to torsion and bending loads. This prevents the coupling from being unintentionally activated by external factors such as wave action or the natural movement of the ship. At the moment the axial tensile force is reached, the coupling separates and both ends are instantly and automatically hermetically sealed by internal valves, minimizing product loss and protecting the environment.
This version is manufactured from high-grade aluminum and features 1-inch BSP female thread connections on both sides according to EN ISO 228. Thanks to the robust Viton (FKM/FPM) seals, the coupling is highly resistant to ozone, weathering, and various chemicals at temperatures ranging from -20°C and +200°C. After an incident, the coupling can be easily reassembled on-site by replacing the three external breaking bolts with an original spare parts kit.
Application: Ideal for ship-to-rig, ship-to-ship, and bunker transfers of fuels, chemicals, and liquid foodstuffs.
Maximum Working Pressure: 16 bar (test pressure 24 bar, minimum burst pressure 80 bar).Breaking Value: Set at a defined axial tensile force (standard 9 kN for this configuration).
Material: Aluminum body with FPM (Viton) seals.
Certification: Fulfills the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Directive category 2 and is approved by Lloyd's Register.
Safety: Suitable for use in ATEX Zone 1 and approved for the transport of dangerous goods (ADR, RID, IMDG).
