The Manntek Marine Safety Break-away coupling (SBC) is a high-quality safety component essential for protecting equipment and the environment during fluid transfer in the maritime sector. This coupling serves as a controlled breaking point in the hose connection. When a ship, bunker barge, or offshore platform unintentionally drifts or moves away, the coupling disconnects as soon as the axial pulling force exceeds the set breaking value of 33 kN.
This Marine Version is specifically constructed to provide high resistance against torsional forces and bending loads. This design prevents the coupling from being activated prematurely or unintentionally by external factors such as wave action or sea swell. At the moment of activation, internal valves on both sides close immediately and hermetically. This minimizes the release of media, which is crucial for deck safety and the protection of the marine environment.
The housing is manufactured from robust Stainless Steel 316 (1.4408), providing maximum corrosion resistance in saltwater environments. The coupling features a 3-inch BSP female thread connection and utilizes Viton (FPM) seals. These seals offer excellent resistance to chemicals and extreme temperatures between -20°C and +200°C. After an incident, the coupling can be easily and quickly restored on-site by replacing the breaking bolts.
Application: Ideal for ship-to-shore, ship-to-ship, and offshore bunkering of chemicals and fuels.
Maximum Working Pressure: 25 bar (test pressure 37.5 bar, minimum burst pressure 125 bar).
Breaking Value: Set at an axial pulling force of 33 kN.
Material: Stainless Steel 316 housing with FPM (Viton) seals.
Certification: Complies with the PED directive (Category 2) and is approved by Lloyd's Register.
Safety: ATEX Zone 1 certified and suitable for the transport of dangerous goods (ADR, RID, IMDG).
