The Manntek Marine Safety Break-away coupling (SBC), also identified by part number N516M1101, is an essential safety component specifically developed for the most demanding maritime conditions. This coupling serves as the intentional "weakest link" in a hose assembly or loading arm to prevent costly equipment damage and dangerous leaks. When a ship or bunker barge unintentionally drifts away while the connection is still established, the coupling disconnects in a controlled manner as soon as the axial pulling force exceeds the preset breaking value of 24 kN.
Unlike the industrial version, this Marine Version (N516M1101) is specifically designed to offer increased resistance to torsional and bending loads. This specialized construction prevents the coupling from being unintentionally activated by external factors such as wave action or the natural movement of a vessel. At the moment of separation, both sides of the coupling are immediately and automatically hermetically sealed by internal valves, minimizing product release and protecting the marine environment.
This version is manufactured from high-quality aluminum and features a 4-inch BSP female thread connection on both sides. Thanks to the robust Viton (FPM) seals, the coupling is highly resistant to aggressive media and extreme temperatures ranging from -20°C to +200°C. After an incident, the N516M1101 can be easily restored on-site by replacing the three external breaking bolts with an original spare parts kit.
Application: Ideal for ship-to-shore, ship-to-ship, and bunker transfers of fuels and chemicals.
Maximum Working Pressure: 10 bar (test pressure 15 bar, minimum burst pressure 50 bar).
Breaking Value: Set at an axial pulling force of 24 kN.
Material: Aluminum body with FPM (Viton) seals.
Certification: Complies with the PED directive and is approved by Lloyd's Register.
Safety: Suitable for use in ATEX Zone 1 and the transport of dangerous goods (ADR, RID, IMDG).
