The Manntek Marine Safety Break-away coupling (SBC) is a vital safety component designed to prevent costly equipment damage and dangerous leaks in maritime and industrial environments. This coupling serves as the intentional "weakest link" in a hose assembly or loading arm. When a ship, bunker barge, or tank truck unintentionally drives or drifts away while the connection is still established, the coupling disconnects in a controlled manner as soon as the axial pulling force exceeds the set breaking value of 13 kN.
The Marine Version of this coupling is specifically developed to offer increased resistance to torsion and bending loads. This is essential to prevent unintended activation caused by wave action or the natural movement of a vessel. At the moment of separation, both sides of the connection are immediately and automatically hermetically sealed by internal valves. This keeps product release to an absolute minimum, protecting both the working environment and the ecosystem.
This version is manufactured from high-quality aluminum and features a 3-inch BSP female thread connection (according to EN ISO 228) on both sides. The coupling is equipped with standard Viton (FPM) seals, which offer excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, and chemicals at temperatures between -20°C and +200°C. After an incident, the coupling can be easily restored on-site by replacing the breaking bolts with an original spare parts kit.
Application: Ideal for bunkering, rail and road transport, ISO containers, and ship-to-shore transfers.
Maximum Working Pressure: 10 bar (test pressure 15 bar, minimum burst pressure 50 bar).
Breaking Value: Set at an axial pulling force of 13 kN.
Material: Aluminum body with FPM (Viton) seals.
Certification: Complies with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and is approved by Lloyd's Register.
Safety: Suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX Zone 1) and approved for the transport of dangerous goods (ADR, RID, IMDG).
